Millions of people all over the world suffer from kidney failure, requiring that they undergo hemodialysis treatments to filter toxins from their blood on a regular basis. Unfortunately, most individuals in need of this treatment are required to travel to dialysis centers several times per week, sometimes traveling hours in each direction. DEKA set out to improve both access and therapy outcomes by creating a device specifically designed for home use. I acted as lead designer on this project over roughly a 10 year period. My responsibilities included defining and executing the physical user experience and housing design as well as specifying color, material and finish.
